Focused Microwave Equipment Introduction
Microwave heaters work by exciting individual polar molecules, causing them to vibrate, thus heating the product literally from the molecular level. Traditional microwave heaters generate unfocused microwaves that heat in isolated, non-uniform regions creating "hot-spots". These "hot-spots" cause non uniform heating resulting in considerable product degradation. Thus standard, unfocused microwaves are hot desirable for fluid processing. Industrial Microwave Systems, Inc. has patented a method to focus microwaves using an elliptical applicator though which product flows. The use of focused microwaves eliminates hot-spots and provide uniform heating of your product in less than 1 second. Because there are no hot surfaces in the microwave heater, your product cannot burn on. Additionally, your product is never in direct contact with steam as in steam injection or infusion. Thus flash cooling is not needed and the loss of volatiles is eliminated. This system is capable of HTST processing and UHT processing for selected products.
Microwave HTST/UHTLab-25EDH:
The Microwave HTST/UHTLab-25EDH is a lab-scale processor using a patented Focused Microwave Applicator as its final product heater. This system is capable of HTST processing used for pasteurization, extended shelf-life and high acid aseptic processing, as well as UHT processing for selected products. In addition to its microwave final heater, this processor includes a tubular preheater, starch hydration loop, hold tube bank, cooler and all instrumentation needed for processing.
Microwave Module:
This module adds microwave heating capabilities to your existing processing system using a patented Focused Microwave Applicator (from Industrial Microwave Systems, Inc.) as the final product heater. The microwave heater will raise the temperature of the product up to 171° F (95°C) above the temperature at which it entered the applicator. When used with most MicroThermics processors, it will provide similar capabilities to the Microwave EDH listed above. In addition to its microwave heater, this module includes two internal hold tubes, and a cooler to minimize your products thermal exposure.
