In-Line Flow Meter

MicroThermics In-Line Flow Meter (IFM) can be connected nearly anywhere in your process and provides a convenient output display. The remote display can be mounted on a stand or integrated into a system during assembly. Most MicroThermics systems display product flow rate based on the speed of the motor. The In-Line Flow Meter provides actual measurement of the product flow rate. This reduces the need to calibrate the system’s display for new stators, and allows more reproducible and reliable maintenance of product flow as stators age. It is especially useful for systems equipped for pumping hot materials like steam injection modules and systems because product flow often changes with temperature, and motor speed is only a fair indication of flow rate. The IFM is also available with an empty pipe alarm which can be used to trigger a warning indicating when the pump may be running dry. The IFM is part of the upgrade path to actual flow-based pump control.

How It Works

The IFM is an electromagnetic flow meter that senses the movement of an electrically conductive product through a magnetic field created by the sensor. Movement of the product through this field produces a voltage that is proportional to flow rate. The sensor measures this voltage and converts it to flow rate. Products must have minimum conductivity of 5 S/cm. Nearly all food products exceed this value. Distilled and de-ionized water cannot be measured.
